Mariel Becicka

Undergraduate Intern at Alce su Voz

Mariel Becicka is a motivated and ambitious Sophomore at Wichita State University with a passion for trying everything. While she is primarily involved with the Hispanic American Leadership Organization and American Sign Language (ASL) club, Mariel is not afraid to spontaneously hop into different student organizations’ activities. Additionally, Mariel is the president of the ASL Honors society and founder of her own student group. Mariel co-founded the anti-ICE student coalition, FIRE: Freedom, Individuals, Rights, and Equity, during her freshman year after seeing the need for action in her neighborhood.

Mariel aspires to work as a trilingual medical interpreter or English teacher for English language learners. Mariel hopes to use her ASL and Spanish skills to bridge language gaps and break down barriers across communities.

In her free time, you can catch Mariel cruising around campus on her skateboard, hammocking under the shade by the library, or exercising in the outdoor gym by the Haskett Center.
